Three Exercises To Improve Your Drawing Abilities

Once you learn to draw, soon you’ll realize: a big part of this artistry is just craftsmanship and technique. Once you’re proficient in the primary methods, your creativeness can rely on these basics. This gives you more freedom to develop your drawing skills and imagination instead of focusing on employing the basic methods properly. So it’s a great idea to exercise these primary drawing methods regularly. Especially when you’re starting to learn to draw, much practice of these primary methods will speed up your drawing success. Learn Drawing Hatchings and Crosshatchings Hatching implies to draw many parallel lines close together. Other than in conventional shadings the lines must not adjoin eachother! Although there’s still a small blank space between the lines they build an region seemingly shaded strongly.

Cross-hatching takes it one step further. While you’re doing cross-hatching you overlay one set of hatchings with an additional set orthogonal to the first one. To draw shadings is more usual than hatching. It’s more intuitive and requires lower skills. When drawing shadings you just fill up regions of your drawing with your pencil. By varying the softness of your pencil, the pressure you apply and the number of layers of shadings you create you control the tones you create. Like when creating hatchings you’ll draw shadings by creating lots of lines. But this time you draw them so close to one another they intersection and blend entirely. Shadings made out of lines still have a direction (though not as strong as in hatchings). So be aware to adjust your shadings’ direction with the forms of the objects you’re drawing. To make the shading more dense you can apply the same methods as when creating hatchings. A different way for drawing shadings involves drawing lots of really small circles close together so they merge and blend. Shadings made this way are highly smooth and lack a hidden direction. The advantage: you won’t have to keep an eye on the shading’s hidden direction. Best you start exercising shadings instantly. Take a few sheets of paper, sketch a few simple figures like rectangles and start to fill them with shadings. Try to make them as smooth as imaginable and use all the different methods explained before. Once again when you have achieved enough experience, try to begin employing the methods acquired on real-world subjects.

Use Various viewpoints and types of perspective

In addition to creating shadings and hatchings the most crucial technique you have to know when commencing to learn drawing, is a sound apprehension of perspective. There are a few rules that can assist you in constructing perspectively correct drawings. But first it is necessary you practice your eye to acknowledge basic structures. Choose simple sceneries largely consisting of straight lines and not too much arcs. And then draw these subjects by drawing only the outline. How To Grip A Drawing Pencil

If you dont have the right grip, your drawings will be flat. For example, my drawings are more than just lines. I also use shadows, dots, squiggles and broad strokes, both bold and light. Variations that add depth. I do these all using different grips. The grips broaden the drawing!

Here are the grips I use.

THE CONDUCTOR

This grip is light, pencil-flat and far from the point . . . the farther back from the point the better which is why I use a pencil extender. This grip lets the pencil only lightly touch the paper like a conductors baton skirts the air. I use this grip to make LIGHT strokes which can be WIDE when the point is sharp and the lead lays flat on the paper.

THE NUN

This grip is like the Conductor but with a fore finger on top. Now you have the same reach and the same angle but with a little more downward force like a school nun requires to rap your knuckles with a ruler. I use this grip to make DARK strokes which can be WIDE when the point is sharp and the lead lays flat on the paper.

THE DICTATOR

This grip is tight, pencil-upright and close to the point like the second-grade teacher who clenched her teeth and slapped her hand on my desk trying to teach me penmanship! I use this grip to make lines that are the DARKEST, the PRECISEST and the FINEST when the point is sharp.

THE DUDE

The most common and versatile this grip is relaxed, pencil-tilted-back and halfway to the point like a surfer who lives the summer life on one hand but works hard in the water on the other. I use this grip to make lines that are LIGHT or DARK, BRIEF or FLOWING, LOOSE or PRECISE.

Use of good quality of fabric in the furniture will save the reupholstering cost as well as help to extend the life of the chair/sofa. A good backdrop in the interior dcor also is a very important element of any dcor and this role is played by curtains so some advice on curtains. Money is better spent on fine material and careful constructed/knitted fabric rather than elaborated designs. Curtains should be pretty and also simple if the interior dcor is not over done, if the interior dcor of the living room is simple, over elaborated designed curtain will divert the attention of the user. Style of the curtain should be guided by the architecture size of the window, if the window is tall, roman style of curtains would enhance the looks. Broad windows can have two rows of curtains, one shear and other normal. While deciding the layout of the living room one has to decide on the focal point of the room which could be a audio/video unit or the sitting layout. If one ignores this then it could lead to errors in deciding on the type of furniture and uncomfortable arrangement. Unlike other rooms i.e. bedroom or dinning room, living room will never have large piece of furniture in the center of the room. Usually the center of the living room is open so as to allow free movement, and as the center is open the flooring in the room becomes very important so visually balanced and designed flooring can contribute to the beauty of the dcor. The sole of the house, the living room is the place for entertaining guests and relaxing with the family, whether the dcor is casual or formal Victorian or modern follow your own instincts and taste while decorating the room and it will please others too.
